About The Wheel of Name

The Wheel of Name is a free, browser-based platform built around one straightforward idea: fair decisions shouldn't require complicated software, a paid subscription, or any technical knowledge. You open the tool, add your names or options, and spin. That's it.

The project started as a simple random name picker — the kind of thing a teacher might need five minutes before class to pick who reads next without it turning into an argument. Over time, people started asking for more. Could it handle giveaways? What about picking a Secret Santa assignment? Could it work as a coin toss, a dice roller, a yes/no decision tool? Those requests shaped what the site has become: a growing collection of randomization and decision tools that all share the same philosophy — open, fast, and genuinely free.

What We Build and Why

Every tool on The Wheel of Name was built in response to a real use case. The Secret Santa generator exists because organizing a gift exchange over email is confusing and someone always accidentally finds out who they're buying for. The Lucky Winner Picker exists because Instagram giveaway hosts needed a transparent way to select a commenter that their audience could trust. The Random Yes No wheel exists because sometimes you genuinely don't know what you want and need something external to break the tie.

The tools are built on standard browser randomization methods. Results are generated client-side, which means nothing is stored on our servers — the names you enter never leave your device. We don't log selections, we don't build profiles, and we don't require an account for anything on this site. The core experience is anonymous and private by design.

Who Uses These Tools

The site is used by classroom teachers who need a low-drama way to call on students, by HR teams picking employees for recognition programs, by YouTubers and streamers running giveaways, by party hosts who can't agree on what game to play next, by parents settling which child picks the movie, and by coaches deciding which team goes first. The ads are served through Google AdSense. We don't have a premium tier, we don't sell your data, and the core spin functionality has never been paywalled.

Transparency in Randomness

We're careful about how we describe the randomization these tools use. The random outcomes are generated using JavaScript's built-in pseudorandom number generator, which is sufficient for fair draws, classroom picks, games, and giveaways. It is not cryptographically secure randomness — that's a standard relevant to encryption, not to picking a name from a list. We don't overstate what the tools do, and we don't make claims that aren't accurate.
